It can be difficult to identify which topics should be considered for HTA and which are
not appropriate. Figure 1 provides an algorithm to help guide whether a topic is appropriate
for HTA or not.

HTA: health technology assessment; RCT: randomized control trial. Note: “unmet
need" generally indicates that a particular disease cannot be adequately treated, or perhaps
treated at all, with currently available treatments. In case of screening/diagnostic technology,
“unmet need” generally mean that current screening methods are not sufficient for accurate
